Can you believe this coming weekend is already Memorial Day?
Where has the spring gone??
I know technically we still have another month of spring.
I don't know about you, but once Memorial Day is here, I'm kinda in summer mode.
Oh geez, who am I kidding…it was in the 90's here in North Carolina last weekend so I'm already in summer mode!
I took a break from doing some outdoor DIY projects and that heat out there to redecorate my foyer.
It's so fun to add some patriotic décor to celebrate Memorial Day.
And before we know it, the Fourth of July will be here too.

Where to Add American Flags in Home Décor
The simplest, most affordable patriotic décor you can add to your home are American flags.
I mean, seriously, what's more patriotic than our country's flag?!
Instead of a wreath or filling my hanging basket with faux flowers, I added a five 8×12 flags on sticks.
Don't you just love this look?
You can also stick a flag or two in a flower pot on your front porch for summer.
The same size flags can be slipped into a vase to create an Americana themed centerpiece.
I used a farmhouse style white enamel milk can to hold several flags.
Just add a few empty plastic grocery bags or newspaper to hold your flags upright in your container.
A group of seven smaller flags in a mason jar add so much style to this tiered tray decorated for summer holidays.
The 4×6 flags are a great size to fill a jar that can be used in so many areas.
Place a jar or vase of flags on your kitchen windowsill, next to your bathroom sink, or even on your desk.
A rustic stars and stripes pennant banner hangs on my fireplace mantel for Memorial Day.
The burlap banner coordinates with the style of the rustic stacked stone fireplace.

Summer Flowers in Red, White & Blue
You can add Americana color to your outdoor spaces this summer with your annual flowers.
I love geraniums!
Although, I'm not a fan of having to pinch off the dead blooms, I do love how beautiful they are.
And of course, the red color of the geraniums is perfect for a patriotic home tour!
More summer annuals on our back deck fill flower pots.
White vinca flowers in the front of this photo.
And can you see those red impatients in the back in the large whisky barrel style planter?
You didn't think I'd forget about the blue flowers, did you?
We have several hydrangea shrubs in our backyard and since our soil is less acidic with a low pH they produce blue blooms.
I cut a few hydrangea stems to add some blue to an outdoor picnic style tablescape.
How to Use Patriotic Signs & Chalkboards
Decorating with word art signs for the summer holidays is a fun way to add more color to your home.
This blue wood sign looks great on my mantle.
And don't you just love that quote?!
To use a small sign in a big space just layer larger pieces behind it.
By placing the sign between a white washed tobacco basket and a vintage window it anchors the smaller sign.
I added a tiny sign to the bottom of my tiered tray.

You don't have to buy a sign for every holiday.
Grab a chalkboard and write you favorite quote or saying on it.
Then erase and do over again.

Where to Add Colorful Pillows
Blue striped outdoor pillows add more color to our deck.
Althoug,h we use these on the deck all summer long, they blend perfectly with the patriotic outdoor space I created on our deck.
The blue seat cushions also add some more blue to the neutral wicker table and chairs.
I used the same blue striped pillow in my foyer this week when I challenged myself to decorate our entryway without buying anything new.
Since I didn't have a solid red pillow, I grabbed a Christmas pillow from my storage closet.
No one will see the other side that says "joy". LOL!
Well, maybe someone will move it or see that zipper which is supposed to be in the back.
Maybe I should invest in these budget-friendly red pillow covers.
How to Add Stars in your Americana Home Décor
These metal and wood stars came in a set of three.
Can you guess what the other color in the set is?
Yup, they're red, white and blue!
The size is perfect to add to the tiered tray.
But they'd also be great in other areas of your home.
Check out the fun set I found at the end of this post.
Anne let me borrow this strand of twine stars for my tablescape.
They're the perfect natural element to wind through the centerpiece and add some texture.
These would be great at Christmas time too!
Where to Hang Patriotic Wreaths
Wreaths aren't just for doors.
This colorful red, white, and blue wreath hangs on a DIY row of hooks I made last year.
The rustic berry wreath symbolizes the fun summer holiday season.
It's named Firecracker…I mean, really, how fun is that?!

No worries!
Just add some ribbon to a wreath you already own.
I looped a piece of 3″ wide red striped ribbon through a green wreath for a pop of red on my fireplace mantel.
Why Should You Use Lanterns this Summer?
A red lantern with a string of distressed white beads is so pretty grouped with a white container of American flags and another filled with blue hydrangeas.
Red, white, and blue colors are all represented in this vignette.
This year, I hung the same red metal lantern from my coat rack in our foyer.
Even if red doesn't go with the style of your home décor, its a great pop of color to use during different holidays like Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Valentine's Day and even Christmas.
I don't have anything red in my home, except a few things I bring out for those times of year.
This white wood lantern is another versatile piece for different times of the year.
I've used this lantern in many areas of our house, but I especially like it on our deck with my flower pots.
And wait until you see how I updated that black metal lantern!
